English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)Course OverviewThis Intensive/Inter-generational Literacy Course depends entirely on the individual’s effort. If you are regular to class and you have an understanding with the tutor of your daily time frame and commitment to the course, you will complete the course in 48 weeks or earlier. You must at least spend four hours a day in class for your learning. The tutor is with you every minute of these four hours.
Course IntakesEnrolments All Year Round. Available to Domestic & International students. There is no cost to eligible domestic students, government funding. Learning OutcomeOn successful completion of this qualification, graduates will be able to communicate in basic English for everyday purposes such as shopping, requesting information, responding to simple instructions and filing out common forms. Completion of the Level 1 Certificate in ESOL Communications leads directly into Pacific College of Technology’s Certificate in ESOL with Communication Level 2 and graduates may also gain entry level work in a position that requires only basic knowledge of English language. Course ContentThe course covers the following content: Communication and cross-cultural skills for a multi-cultural environment, with specific focus on the workplace environment in New Zealand job market as well as aspects of communication in English listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, public speaking, gathering information and report writing.
